Site of Betsy Tooley's TavernFoot of Fearing Street at the Pasquotank RiverDate: pre 1790On this site stood the first inn/tavern frequented by River travelers. In 1793, Elizabeth "Betsy" Tooley, owner of the tavern, gave most of the land on which "Redding" was founded. Conjecture has it that the town's name may have been changed to honor Betsy's generosity.
