Walking Tour Home Page
Elizabeth City has six historic districts on the National Register of Historic Places. The area defined by two of the National Register districts is also designated as the Elizabeth City Historic District (ECHD), a local historic district created under North Carolina law. About The Walking TourTo give credit where credit is due - this “virtual” walking tour of Elizabeth City is an adaptation of the Walking Tour pamphlet published by the City of Elizabeth City's Historic Preservation Commission. Most of the text is adapted in whole or in part from that pamphlet. This virtual tour is no substitute for actually walking Elizabeth City's historic districts. The historic districts have far many more points of interest than can possibly be covered in either a printed brochure or a web site. Nevertheless, we hope that this “virtual” tour serves as a worthy introduction for those of you who may be planning a trip to Elizabeth City, or for anyone who may be unable to walk the districts for whatever reason. Technical NotePlease note that this web site is best viewed with a video display set at a resolution of 800 by 600 pixels, or higher. Points of Historic InterestJust as you could if you were here in person, you can with this “virtual” walking tour of Elizabeth City's local historic district start at any place along the route and travel in either direction (forward or backward). But unlike the pedestrian version, this virtual tour allows you to visit only the points of interest you wish to see, and you can take them in whatever order you like. To take the tour in forward order from the beginning, press the “Start Tour” link. Or you can select the specific point of interest where you want to start from the list below. Once started, you can follow the “ At any point along the tour you can press the “ Start TourChamber of CommerceFor copies of the printed pamphlet and more information, please contact:
